As such, the Foundation is one of the designated stewards of Andy Warhol’s legacy. The Foundation was established in accordance with Andy Warhol’s will which generously directed the vast majority of his estate be used to establish a charitable organization to advance the visual arts. Q: Who established the Foundation?Ī: Andy Warhol. To date, the foundation has given over $260 million in cash grants to over 1,000 arts organizations in 49 states and abroad and has donated 52,786 works of art to 322 institutions worldwide. I less you are intensely interested in birds, this is not worth the money.General Information Q: What does the Foundation do?Ī: The foundation manages an innovative and flexible grants program while also preserving Warhol’s legacy through creative and responsible licensing policies and extensive scholarly research for ongoing catalogue raisonné projects. I could understand the event space spending and the up charges if they kept the entrance price low, but it is comparable to the Carnegie Science center, or the zoo, or the Carnegie museum, and there is much less to see at the other places. ( here is an idea, park on the public street, less expensive and closer to the entrance). Then you have to walk out to the street along the sidewalk. Hopefully you are not in a wheelchair, or have a stroller,or have mobility issues. After paying your $5 to park you must walk all around the building, over a goose poop covered sidewalk, then along a mud puddle covered gravel path. The grand entrance off of the parking lot is not open to visitors. ![]() It is clear they should be in the event center business instead of running an aviary. The aviary recently spent millions adding a new event center on to the building. They have beautiful paper art and a lot of bird books. Gift shop has unique items such as hand-carved birds, and luminaries. Food is surprisingly good for being at the Aviary. The Aviary is mostly open so you walk through the bird's area and they can walk towards you and maybe even on you. There were presentations throughout the Aviary and several helpful staff to answer any questions. When I went we were able to feed lorikeets, feed pelicans, and penguins if we wanted. They do have a show that you have to pay for but the free show in my opinion is just about the same. There are several opportunities throughout the day to get up close and personal with the birds they have. If you simply go on their website they explain their name, and it's not like a Smithsonian National Zoo or anything. People on here seem to complain that it's too small, or "it's a National Aviary" it should have more. I've been twice and love the immersive experience.
